Located on Capitol Hill in Southeast Washington, DC, Tyler Elementary School has experienced many positive changes in the last few years. With the help and dedication of an inspired school community, Tyler has introduced new, exciting educational programs, while simultaneously improving its facilities and increasing student achievement.

Within its historical building, Tyler offers an array of unique educational programs to meet the needs of our diverse community. We currently have 250 students, ranging from Preschool (3 year olds) to 5th grade. Students are enrolled in either our thriving traditional program, our innovative Spanish Immersion program, or our exceptional city-wide Special Education program.

Community support has been vital to the school’s recent changes, especially with regard to facility improvements. Tyler boasts new floors, new windows, new paint and an all-new beautiful library, which celebrated its grand re-opening in December 2007 after being completely renovated and restocked through the Capitol Hill Community Foundation’s School Libraries Project. The law firm Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld, LLP and the Department of Defense also partner with the school to support school events and activities, and to provide tutoring and enrichment programs, field trips and special parties for student achievers. Student academic performance and dedication is evident in the school’s exemplary daily attendance rate of approximately 93%.

With tremendous support from corporate sponsors, dedicated parents and outstanding school staff and administrators, Tyler Elementary School has emerged as a shining star and is on its way to becoming a model school in the District of Columbia.
